Your loved one pops into the local gas station for some cold drinks. Time passes and they don't return. Panic falls upon you as you frantically search. Years pass and that search for answers has not ceased. The Vanishing is about loss, obsession, and the banality of evil. The original 1988 Dutch/French, suspense, thriller by director George Sluizer was remade in English for American audiences in 1993 by the very same director with very different results. The remake sports an all-star cast with Jeff Bridges, Kiefer Sutherland, Nancy Travis, and Sandra Bullock, but does it measure up to the original starring Bernard-Pierre Donnadieu, Gene Bervoets, Johanna ter Steege, and Gwen Eckhaus? Join Invasion of the Remake as we face our fears of taphophobia, autophobia, claustrophobia, arachnophobia, and thanatophobia with this all-new fear filled episode!

Welcome to week 1 of Face Your Fears Month. Where each week we'll discuss movies based on a particular phobia. Conquer your fears in the most passive way possible, by watching a movie about it! It's therapy through cinema. This week it skitters across your floor on eight legs, Arachnophobia (1990)! For one of our hosts this fear is very real. Arachnophobia thrilled and made audiences laugh at their fear of spiders in 1990. Does this thrillomedy still hold up today? Directed by Frank Marshall, Arachnophobia stars Jeff Daniels, Julian Sands, John Goodman, Harley Jane Kozak, Stuart Pankin, and Brian McNamara. Join Invasion of the Remake as we rethink, recast, remake, and help you conquer your fear of spiders with Arachnophobia.

There never seems to be enough time to get things done. Especially that science project that Harlan hasn't turned in. Scavenging a junk yard he finds a time warp generator. Turns out having to much time on your hands is a dangerous thing. John Stockwell, Danielle Von Zerneck, Fisher Stevens, Raphael Sbarge, and Dennis Hopper star in the Jonathan R. Betuel sci-fi, comedy film My Science Project (1985). A story of science run amuck. It is a forgotten gem that failed to find an audience in 1985 and Invasion of the Remake tries rethink, recast, and remake what should have been a cult classic.

Part Fast & Furious, part Dukes of Hazard, Ron Howard stars in this Roger Corman produced action, comedy Eat My Dust! (1976). Eat My Dust! is about a boy who tries to impress a girl by giving her a ride in a fast car...a fast car he has just stolen! His father isn't impressed, he's the Sheriff after all. It may be hard thinking of Richie Cunningham stealing a car, or the director of Solo: A Star Wars Story for that matter, but it happened and Invasion of the Remake is here to assess this insane chase film while trying to rebuild this car flick from the ground up. Don't be last in the race, listen to this weeks episode now or you will Eat My Dust!

A reporter (Manuela Velasco, Jennifer Carpenter) on a community story shadows two firemen to an apartment building on a routine medical call where things turn deadly. An infection is spreading through the building which has been quarantined by the authorities. There is no escape in the Spanish horror film [REC] (2007) or the 2008 American remake Quarantine. Invasion of the Remake takes on their first, and possibly only, found-footage zombie, infection, horror movie on this weeks episode. No one gets out alive!

An obsession to discover the history of man through our own genetic memory takes Dr. Eddie Jessup (William Hurt) through a psychological and physical transformation that may cost him his friends, family and possibly even his sanity. The sci-fi, cult, Ken Russell film Altered States (1980) is a strange trip through the mind and body that asks big, thought provoking questions with amazing special effects for the day and even a caveman of two. This one is going to be a wild ride and Invasion of the Remake digs deep to try and rethink, and remake this film for today's audiences. Don't miss remaking Altered States!

Her romantic desires can bring out the beast in her. A large black leopard that will rip you apart! The classic Val Lewton / Jaques Tourner R.K.O. film Cat People (1942) which starred Simone Simon, Kent Smith, Tom Conway and Jane Randolph is as master class in creating mood and tension with little more than low-key lighting and great timing. The Jerry Bruckheimer / Paul Shrader remake (1982) re-imagines the story as an erotic fantasy starring Natassja Kinski, Malcolm McDowell, John Heard, Ruby Dee, Annette O'Toole, Ed Bagley Jr., and Lynn Lowry. The cats may be people, and the people may be cats, join Invasion of the Remake armed with catnip as we discuss Cat People!

The Road to El Dorado (2000) was not a box office success proving that road wasn't paved with gold. Dreamworks first animated feature may have been a flop, but the film is still fondly remembered by those who saw it. It is full of colorful characters, expressive animals, and even has an evil wizard. The script was from the writers of The Pirates of the Caribbean with a star studded voice cast that includes Kevin Kline, Kenneth Branagh, Rosie Perez, Armand Assante, Edward James Olmos, Jim Cummings, Frank Welker and Tobin Bell. With music by Hanz Zimmer and Elton John this film had all the hallmarks of a major live action blockbuster. Invasion of the Remake tries something a little different this week by reimagining The Road to El Dorado from animation to live action much like Disney recently did with Beauty & the Beast. Join us as we add a little shine back into the gold of the forgotten animated film, The Road to El Dorado.

Welcome to the House on Haunted Hill. A house filled with only death and murder. Please enjoy your stay.
The 1959 classic starring Vincent Price, Carol Ohmat, Richard Long, Alan Marshal, Carolyn Craig, and Elisha Cook Jr. was a huge hit for B-horror director and gimmick-master William Castle. He entertained the masses with this horror murder mystery and his one of a kind carnival style antics to promote the film. A new company, Dark Castle, would be created and inspired by William Castle with its first film being the 1999 remake of House on Haunted Hill starring Geoffrey Rush, Famke Janssen, Taye Diggs, Peter Gallagher, Chris Kattan, Ali Larter, Bidgette Wilson-Sampson, and Jeffrey Combs.
This week Invasion of the Remake takes the challenge to stay one night in the House on Haunted Hill to see which film will win the cash and which film should be pitched into the acid pit. Don't miss this week's spine-tingling episode.

In a twist on the classic Agatha Christy who-done-it style, Amicus' The Beast Must Die (1974) is a who is the werewolf movie. Insane in conception, insane in execution, this crazy, mystery film still manages an all-star cast in Calvin Lockhart, Peter Cushing, Marlene Clark, Charles Gray, Anton Driffring, Ciaran Madden, Tom Chadbon, and Michael Gambon. Do you know who the werewolf is? Join Invasion of the Remake as we rethink, recast and attempt to remake this Amicus films classic. No matter who the werewolf is, we know one thing, The Beast Must Die!

The future of law enforcement has arrived to Invasion of the Remake. Straight from Old Detroit the iconic Peter Weller version of the Robocop (1987) spawned a franchise of movie sequels, toys, comics, cartoons, a television series, and a t.v. mini-series. Paul Verhoeven directs the sci-fi, action classic costarring Nancy Allen, Dan O'Herlihy, Ronny Cox, Kurtwood Smith, Miguel Ferrer and Ray Wise. Robocop is an '80's icon, but a more modern take on Robocop (2014) starring Joel Kinnaman, Gary Oldman, Michael Keaton, Abbie Cornish, Jackie Earle Haley, Jay Baruchel, and Samuel Jackson failed to connect with audiences despite a strong script and stellar cast. Join us as we discuss what went right and what went wrong as these two cybernetic warriors go head to head in this week's episode. Thank you for your cooperation.

If there ever were a film that represents the punk movement of the 1980's it is Alex Cox's Repo Man (1984)! It is irreverent, it is anti-establishment, and it is really weird! Otto (Emilio Estevez) a young punk music fan falls into the tense life a car repossessor. When a mysterious 1964 Chevy Malibu comes up with a large reward, Otto is drawn into a world full of conspiracies, men in black, aliens and an array of crazy characters. Repo Man is glorious chaos captured on film. It co-stars Harry Dean Stanton, Tracey Walter, Olivia Barash and Sy Richardson. Join Invasion of the Remake in our hunt for the killer, radioactive, Malibu as we rethink and remake the cult classic Repo Man!

They've quietly laid their plans to take this world from us. An alien force from the stars sets its sights on taking the Earth for their own purposes. But first they must eliminate the native species who may resist. That species is us!

H.G. Wells 1897 science-fiction classic The War of the Worlds has been adapted countless time for its thought provoking and chilling themes. Orson Welles Mercury Theatre radio program terrified a nation on October 30th, 1938 convincing a nation that a very real invasion was occurring. War of the Worlds would finally be brought to the screen for the first time in 1958 by famed producer George Pal and director Byron Haskins with stars Gene Barry and Ann Robinson. Several adaptions would be made over the years (sorry we can't cover them all) but none bigger than Steven Spielberg's survivor's of the invasion version from 2005 starring Tom Cruise, Dakota Fanning, Tim Robbins and Justin Chatwin. Join us as we compare these two amazing films! We here at Invasion of the Remake may have a soft spot for aliens, but this week we stand with Earth, as we are on the front lines of the War of the Worlds!

There can be only one...unless you you make a lot of money in home video to spawn a franchise. Then there can be lots. This week our hosts, aka the Immortals of the Remake, investigate the urban fantasy classic Highlander (1986). The only fight club where every participant is immortal, battling to the last, with a swing of a sword and a fall of a head to win the "Prize". Conceived by Gregory Widen, directed by Russell Mulcahy, Connor MacLeod was first brought to the screen by Christopher Lambert alongside Sean Connery, Clancy Brown, and Roxanne Hart. With a remake/reboot looming in the future, Invasion of the Remake felt it time to revisit the world of Highlander with what they'd like to see in a remake complete with casting. Join us as we remake Highlander!

Arthur Bishop is an assassin that specializes in making his targets look like they've died from natural causes, aka The Mechanic. When Arthur's next target strikes a more personal cord he takes on a protégé that results in his world crumbling around him. Charles Bronson starred in the original action, thriller in 1972 along side Michael-Jan Vincent. Silent Running (1972) is a sci-fi classic with a strong environmental message. The Earth is no longer viable for plant life, the forests have been put into domes on giant space crafts in the hopes of one day bringing them back to Earth. But with corporate interference the project is scraped and the ships are ordered to destroy the domes returning the space crafts to commercial service. One man (Bruce Dern) takes it upon himself to protect the last forests of Earth. The message of Silent Running seems more important than ever and Invasion of the Remake puts it through their patented remake treatment to try and make it more relevant for today's audiences.

It's that time again, the 90th Academy Awards ceremony will soon be upon us and Invasion of the Remake will be right there hovering over the ceremonies. With one of the most interesting nominations lists to hit the Oscars in years, we had to have our own conversations, predictions, and drinking rules. This year the winner of our Oscar pool will be rewarded with the hosting duties of the podcast for a month. Will Jason keep the command chair or will Sam or Trish take the honor of host away from him? We also have our drinking rules for viewing this year's Oscar ceremony and a few other surprises. With films like Lady Bird, The Shape of Water, and Get Out all up for best picture this year could be one of the most exciting Academy Awards ever!

Rollerball (1975) is a deadly sport on rollerskates. Competitors take to the track trying to score, spilling blood to entertain the masses. But one player Jonathan E. rises above the rest as the sport's most popular player. A conspiracy begins to take Jonathan off the track one way, or another. Norman Jewison brings the William Harrison story to the big screen starring James Caan, John Houseman, and Maud Adams. This sci-fi bloodsport has become a cult hit spawning a disastrous 2002 remake by Die Hard director John McTiernan starring Chris Klein, Jean Reno, LL Cool J, and Rebecca Romijn. Could this be one of the worst remakes ever? Join Invasion of the Remake as we explore the dark world of Rollerball!

Yor, hunter of dinosaurs, savior to many, is on a quest to find out his own history and lost origins. Along the way he picks up a small group to aid in his search for his people. Two thirds Conan, and one third Star Wars, Yor: Hunter From the Future (1983) is a strange anomaly of Italian cinema. A spaghetti sci-fi, fantasy, if you will. Yor stars Reb Brown of 70's Captain America fame, Corinne Clery who would later be a Bond girl in Moonraker, John Steiner, Carole Andre, Luciano Pigozzi, and Ayshe Gul. The world of Yor is complete insanity and thus perfect for an Invasion style remake! Don't you dare miss it!

In a galaxy far, far, away...

The intrepid hosts of Invasion of the Remake became aware of a disturbance in the Force Awakens. Something familiar, something remakey. In a desperate to gambit to bring balance back into the Force they compared Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope to Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens. In doing so they would stumble onto the plot of Star Wars: Rogue One over a year before the film would hit theatres.

Two years later they would do so again with a dreaded Star Destroyers in pursuit. Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back (1980) stands as one of the finest films of the Star Wars franchise. Will there be striking similarities or will Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi stand alone? What new Star Wars Universe stories will the Invaders stumble upon? Join Invasion of the Remake as they once again save the galaxy with a brand new Force fueled podcast.

Would you sell your soul to the Devil for seven wishes to win the hand of the woman you love? That's premise of the romantic comedy Bedazzled. The original (1963) was written by and starred Peter Cook and Dudley Moore alongside Eleanor Bron, and Raquel Welch. Bedazzled's unique blend of big screen storytelling and small screen sketch comedy was directed by Stanley Donen (Blame It On Rio, Singing in the Rain). Writer/Director Harold Ramos would bring the comedy back to screens in a 2000 remake starring Brendan Fraser, Elizabeth Hurley, Francis O'Connor, and Orlando Jones. Will the Devil get his/her due or will Stanley/Elliot get to keep his soul? Join Invasion of the Remake as we go to Hell and get Bedazzled!
