The Mummy (1932) by Universal Pictures starring Boris Karloff, hot off of Frankenstein, took a world that had already caught Egyptian fever when Tutankhamun was discovered in 1922 by storm. It was a massive box office success that spawned several sequels at Universal and inspired many more films from other studios such as Hammer films. Stephen Sommers remade that iconic film in 1999 with stars Brendan Fraser, Rachel Weise, and Arnold Vosloo reviving the iconic horror film into a modern action/adventure franchise that spawned two sequels and a spin-off series in the form of the Scorpion King. With a new Mummy film set for 2017 starring Tom Cruise, the Invaders wanted to raid the tomb of these two Mummy movies and see which Imhotep is immortal and which one will crumble to dust.

Possibly the first of its kind to blend genres, Bud Abbott and Lou Costello Meet Frankenstein (1948) took a classic comedy duo and pitted them against Universal Picture's horror monsters Dracula, Wolfman and of course the Frankenstein Monster. There is even a cameo by the Invisible Man. Some of the most iconic actors to ever play the monsters return in this comedy/horror film like Bela Lugosi, Glenn Strange, and Lon Chaney Jr. Will a couple of comedy buffoons be a match against the devious plans of Count Dracula? How will Jason and Trish recreate this classic film and who might they cast in it? There is only one way to find out and that is to listen to this weeks Invasion of the Remake!

Halloween (1978) ushered in a deluge of slasher films, but when John Carpenter created Michael Myers a horror icon was born that continues to terrify teenage babysitters to this day. Almost 30 years later a new, unique voice in horror in Rob Zombie would come along to remake Halloween (2007) for a brand new audience in his dark vision. Now Invasion of the Remake puts on there slightly soiled William Shatner masks and sees which version will be rule Halloween.

Peeping Tom (1960) birthed a new genre, the cinematic slasher. Premiering only two months prior to Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho, director Michael Powell created a powerful piece of cinema that wouldn't be recognized for its achievements for another 30 years! On this episode Sam & Jason discuss a horror classic that destroyed a man's career and shocked the audiences of the 1960's. It is a film that you probably never heard of, but every cinema lover should see!

The original Japanese Ring (1998) by Hidea Nakata and the American remake The Ring (2002) by Gore Verbinski started and coined the term J-horror. It was the first of many Japanese horror films to be remade for American audiences and became part of the essential horror film lexicon. Invasion of the Remake watched them and got the call. Seven days the caller on the other end said, we told them we only needed 2 hours. We looked into The Ring, and The Ring looked back in fear because it is October, and you know what that means...we have all the horror...hashtag #AllTheHorror on Twitter and join the conversation!

Rutger Hauer is again the subject to our discerning eye, or possibly wrath, it may be wrath. Phillip (Salt, Bone Collector) Noyce directs Blind Fury (1989), a film loosely based on Zatoichi. A Vietnam veteran blinded during the war comes to town to bury some ghosts of the past and gets drawn into a drug ring that has devastated his friend's family. Good thing he was trained by local villagers while he was missing in action to be a master swordsman. The bad guys will definitely pay in this action, comedy starring Rutger Hauer, Terry O'Quinn, Branden Call, Noble Willingham, Nick Cassavetes, Rick Overton, Randall "Tex Cobb, and Sho Kosugi!

This one was a blast to recast, rethink, and remake! You do not want to miss this one!

You enter a small little flower shop on skid row. It's crowded with people and a large plant looking like a venus fly trap, but much larger, sits in a corner drawing most peoples attention. The faces in the crowd look familiar, people like Dick Miller, Jack Nicholson, Jonathan Haze, Jackie Joseph, Mel Welles are on one side of the room with Roger Corman who looks puzzling across the room at Frank Oz who has a crowd behind him. People like Rick Morranis, Ellen Green, Vincent Gardenia, Steve Martin, Bill Murray, Jim Belushi, and John Candy are staring back at Corman and his crew snapping there fingers and humming. It is all so odd. The plant looks your way and gives you a wry smile, almost winking despite having no eyes. You turn back out the door and decide to order your flowers online because this is just to weird!

Welcome to the odd little world of Little Shop of Horrors! Today the Invaders eye their salads a little more cautiously after watching the original 1960 Corman film and the musical remake from 1986 by Frank Oz! Don't be frightened off by a musical, it also has a giant man-eating plant! Good times. Or is it? Listen to this week's episode to see how these films hold up to each other and the Invasion criticism.

It has 5 Academy Awards and boat loads of critical acclaim. It is on more must watch lists than we can count. So of course attempt to do the impossible by remaking Milos Forman's One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest (1975). We might as well try to climb Mount Everest with our teeth. Who are we to think we can have a better cast than Jack Nicholson, Louise Fletcher, Danny DeVito, Christopher Lloyd, Brad Dourif, Sidney Lassick, and William Redfield? Maybe we should be committed for even trying.

More importantly than trying to remake the film is discussing it. It should be talked about. It is still relevant today and we have a frank discussion about the film, and mental illness. Don't worry, we have some fun as well. It's what we do.

If you have your own suggestions of film classics that we should never ever touch please let us know on:

Who are you going to call when the remakes attack? Who are you going to call when Hollywood forces movies you don't want to see down your throats? Jason, Trish, and Sam are here to defend you against the Invasion of the Remake!

Celebrating our first year of the Invasion, we tackle one of the most controversial remakes / reboots ever! The 2016 remake of Ghostbusters by Paul Feig blew up the internet with just its trailer alone. Find out what we thought of the Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones, and Chris Hemsworth lead Ghostbusters. Does it compare up to the the orginal directed by Ivan Reitman and starring Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramos, Ernie Hudson and Sigourney Weaver?

This one has the Invaders divided more than any other movie we've done so far! You can't miss this one. We ain't afraid of no Ghostbusters remake!

Hey wait...what happened to episode 50? Well we wanted to do a big movie that had been remade and it didn't fall into the schedule quite right. So being that we are on the frontline of the Invasion of the Remake we can also get creative with the order of the universe or at least our little corner of it. Next week will be episode #50 but for now we present to you our remaking of Hardware (1990)!

Richard Stanley's low budget science fiction, thriller brought some major themes of environmental collapse, over population, and more, disguised in survival horror. Starring Dylan McDermott, Stacey Travis, and John Lynch along with appearances by Lemmy and Iggy Pop! You can't stop progress, and you can't stop the Invasion of the Remake!

A young man named Alex Rogan is desperate to escape his small little world in the Starlight Starbright trailer park. His only escape is in the one arcade game at the trailer park, Starfighter. Alex had no idea this game would be the gateway to another life among the stars as a reluctant hero.

Invasion of the Remake goes back to a childhood favorite in The Last Starfighter (1984) rethinking it as a modern remake and how modern gaming might change this sci-fi, adventure film, while still considering the more personal elements that affect Alex's life. Strap yourselves into your Gunstars cause this one is going to be a blast of awesome!

Left alone to defend and ungrateful people, two men battle against the clock and the odds to prove there own self worth in two very different but thematically similar movies. Gary Cooper leads an all-star cast alongside Grace Kelly, Lloyd Bridges, Lee Van Cleef, and Lon Chaney Jr. in the Oscar winning western High Noon (1952). While Sean Connery heads to the third moon of Jupiter, Io, with Frances Sternhagen, Peter Boyle, James Sikking, and John Ratzenberger in the science fiction movie Outland (1981).

When the clock is ticking and the remakes are against you, you can always count on Invasion of the Remake to have your back. The Invaders put these two films into an old fashioned gunfight and only one can come out alive. Listen to this weeks episode to see which has the fastest draw.

Proving we are completely and utterly insane, we took on our very first Fan Challenge. The challenge was to just watch Hard Rock Zombies (1985) but since we are mad as hatters, we had to remake this low budget schlock fest. Cause that is how we roll. We went into this film with no preparation, we watched it, and hit record. This is the result.

Little did we know what we would be in for. Wheelchair bound werewolf? Check. Little mongoloid zombie who eats himself? Check. Hitler? Yup, check, it's got that too. Hard Rock Zombies is full of so much insane that we could never put it all in this intro. Listen to this hilarious podcast about about this so bad, it's still bad, horror, comedy that one of you, our fans, tortured us with. You're welcome.

"Release the Kraken!"

Those words were first shouted in 1981 in the now classic Desmond Davis film Clash of the Titans with effects by the incredible Ray Harryhausen. In 2010 Louis Leterrier remade Clash with modern effects to mixed reviews. Comedian Monty Scott joins the invasion team to see who would win in a fight, Harry Hamlin's Perseus versus Sam Worthington's Perseus, or Laurence Olivier's Zeus against Liam Neeson's Zeus. We pull out all our Greek mythology knowledge and take these two fantasy films to task the only way we know, in a Clash of the Titans!

Continuing our month long Fantasy Film June the Invaders remake an 80's fantasy classic. The highest grossing independent film of it's time, The Sword & the Sorcerer looked cool, but is a narrative mess with a great core idea. It's perfect for the Jason, Trish, & Sam to remake with today's audiences in mind.

The Sword & the Sorcerer starred Lee (Hateful Eight, Django Unchained) Horsley, Kathleen (Godfather Part II) Beller, Simon (Jaws 3-D) MacCorkindale, Richard (Halloween) Lynch, Richard (Night Court, House) Moll and directed by Albert Pyun. If that last name sounds familiar go back to listen to Ep.20 Remaking Cyborg where we take on another of Pyun's films.

Triple bladed swords, greedy tyrants, vengeful sorcerers, princesses in distress, pirate captains, dungeons, castles, this film has got it all and the kitchen sink. Don't miss this weeks episode, because it's going to be a wild ride.

In 1982 a retired body builder relatively new to acting got his big break as one of the the most iconic literary characters of all time. That character was Robert E. Howard's Conan the Barbarian, and that man was Arnold Schwarzenegger! Director John Milius co-wrote the script with Oliver Stone and had an all-star cast to support Arnold, like James Earl Jones, Max Von Sydow, Sandahl Bergman, and Mako. The movie is now considered a fantasy classic.

In 2011, after a failed sequel and many more failed attempts to get more Conan starring Arnold off the ground, a remake / re-imagining finally hit the big screen starring Jason Momoa, who, after a major role in HBO's Game of Thrones was no stranger to playing a barbarian. He was joined by Ron Pearlman, Rose McGowan, and Stephen Lang in this Marcus Nispel directed summer blockbuster. It didn't do so well...like really, really not well.

Richard Donner could do no wrong in the 1980's cultivating many hits like Lethal Weapon, The Goonies, Superman, Scrooged, and The Omen. In 1985 Donner directed Ladyhawke with Matthew Broderick, Rutger Hauer, Michelle Pfeiffer, Leo McKern, John Wood, Ken Hutchison, and Alfred Molina. While loved and appreciated at the time, the film was not a hit and has become a largely forgotten romantic, fantasy classic. That's where the Invasion of the Remake hosts come in, because they think it is ripe for a remake! Download now to find out how they would do it and who they would cast in a potential Ladyhawke remake!

Two movies based on The Hunter by Donald E. Westlake under the pen name Richard Stark brought Westlake's most famous character, Parker, to the silver screen, but they wouldn't be actually called Parker. Westlake famously protected the character and the name Parker wouldn't be used until after his death when Jason Statham starred in a movie title after the titular character.

Point Blank (1967) with Lee Marvin starring as Walker/Parker in a very ethereal adaptation of the novel alongside Angie Dickinson, Keenan Wynn, Caroll O'Connor, and John Vernon was the first to adapt the novel, although now in a contemporary late 60's setting. Near the dawn of the millennium Mel Gibson would star in another contemporary take on the novel in Payback (1999) co-starring Gregg Henry, Maria Bello, David Paymer, Deborah Kara Unger, William Devane, Lucy Liu, Kris Kristofferson, and James Coburn.

While adapting the same material, these two films are very different. Invasion of the Remake is the only place where Lee Marvin will be fighting Mel Gibson to see which is the better Parker.

This episode is dedicated in the memory of Darwin Cooke who passed away only two days prior to the recording of this episode. He adapted many of the Parker novels into graphic novel form and did them with a passion for the character that may have only been rival to that of Westlake himself. He will be missed.
