One, two, Freddy's coming for you...

Invasion of the Remake puts on a pot of coffee because Freddy Krueger is bringing his rusted, blood stained claw glove to the podcast. A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) introduced a new Slasher to the world, Freddy Krueger, it revived a dying genre, and made horror icons our of Robert Englund, and Heather Langenkamp. It also introduced the world to megastar Johnny Depp! In 2010, as remake mania was at a fever pitch, all sorts of horror icons were getting a facelift including Freddy Krueger. Jackie Earl Haley replaces an aging Robert Englund in the Platinum Dunes remake accompanied by Rooney Mara, Katie Cassidy, Kyle Gallner, and Kellan Lutz. Whose dreams are darker? Whose glove is sharper? Invasion of the Remake has all the answers because we surly aren't sleeping anytime soon.

...nine, ten, never sleep again.

John Holden (Dana Andrews) accidentally accepts a parchment with a terrible curse attached to it. The clock is ticking to uncover a mysterious death or a demon from the pits of hell will come for John. Invasion of the Remake discusses this forgotten classic horror film and is astonished that it hasn't already been remade. Good thing it hasn't because this week the Invaders will do just that, remaking, rethinking, and fantasy casting a theoretical remake of Night of the Demon!

The Invaders are huddled in a cabin in the woods. Sam said he'd be right back, but he wasn't, at least not all of him, ew. Thankfully guest host Jeff (3.0) Robertson has returned (remember Ep.6 Remaking The Stuff?) to help us with our ever growing Slasher problem. Jason Voorhees, Freddy Krueger, Michael Myers, Leatherface, Chucky, and a whole host of slashers are stalking us from the dark forest. Who are these masked murderers? Where did they come from? Invasion of the Remake discuss the phenomena of the cinematic slasher from their genesis to their current incarnations. No one is safe from the Slashers on this weeks Invasion of the Remake.

Invasion of the Remake gets haunted by a graveyard full of ghosts just like the family in Poltergeist (1982 & 2015)! The only thing for them to do is watch both movies in the hopes of exercising the evil spirits. Tobe Hooper directs a script by Steven Spielberg creating a legendary family horror film beloved by many. It stars Heather O'Rourke, JoBeth Williams, Craig T. Nelson, Oliver Robins, and Beatrice Straight. Director Gil Kenan brings in an impressive cast with Sam Rockwell, Rosemarie DeWitt, Kennedi Clements, Saxon Sharbino, Kyle Catlett, and Jared Harris for his 2015 remake. Does the remake stand up with the original or should it be laid to rest? Tune in to this week's episode to find out.

Frightober is upon us and Invasion of the Remake is ready for the blood and carnage that October horror movies bring. This week we travel to the graveyard to dig up an old friend, Pumpkinhead (1988). Pumpkinhead was the brainchild of special effects guru Stan Winston who came up with the story, oversaw the special effects, and even directed it. He created one of the most amazing creatures to ever grace the silver screen and launched a franchise. But Pumpkinhead wouldn't be what it was without the tortured performance of Lance Henricksen as Ed Harley who raises the creature in revenge for the death of his boy. Ed begins to realize the dark cost of raising the creature as he begins to become one with it. Invasion of the Remake revisits Pumpkinhead and re-imagines it for today's audiences setting it loose upon the world to wreak it's terrible vengeance once again.

Invasion of the Remake is returning to the Wonderful World of Disney with the comedy, family favorite The Absent Minded Professor (1961) and the remake Flubber (1997). The Absent Minded Professor stars Walt Disney legend Fred MacMurray in one of his most memorable roles alongside Nancy Olson, Keenan Wyn, Tommy Kirk, Elliott Reid and Director Robert (Old Yeller) Stevenson. With a line up like that the remake had to really step up. Bringing in legendary screenwriter John Hughes and Director Les (Blue Streak) Mayfield was a good start. But the inclusion of comedy legend Robin Williams with Marcia Gay Harden, Christopher McDonald, Ted Levine, Clancy Brown, Raymond J. Barry, and Wil Wheaton seems like a formula for success. But is it? This week we look at the chemistry of these films and see whose Flubber has the most bounce. So buckle up into your flying cars and listen to this week's episode The Absent Minded Professor versus Flubber!

The future never looked so good. Join Invasion of the Remake in their fur lined spaceship as we strip down, rethink, and remake Barbarella (1968)! Based on the Jean-Claude Forest comic series, Roger Vadim brings Barbarella to the big screen in what would be the first time a science fiction comic character had a feature film. It was also near the end of Jane Fonda's "first act" and one of the last of her sex kitten films. She would go on to Oscar winning films, political activism, and be a famous fitness advocate. But she wasn't alone in Barbarella, she was also joined by John Phillip Law, Anita Pallenberg, Milo O'Shea, and the legendary Marcel Marceau! So come on board, stay away from the Excessive Machine, and join us in remaking Barbarella!

A small town is being victimized and stripped of its resources by profiteers and villains. With what little they have they hire a small band of mercenaries to help fight off the evil plaguing them. Based on the screenplay and film by the acclaimed Akira Kurosawa, Seven Samurai, The Magnificent Seven takes that classic story from feudal Japan to the American old west.

Director John (The Great Escape) Sturges put an all-star cast together for the original 1960 version with Yul Brynner, Steve McQueen, Charles Bronson, Eli Wallach, Horst Buchholz, Robert Vaughn, Brad Dexter, and James Coburn. That filmed spawned three sequels, a television remake and television series. Director Antoine (Training Day) Fuqua would bring the Seven back to the silver screen with Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt, Ethan Hawke, Vincent D'Onofrio, Byung-hun Lee, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Martin Senmeier, Haley Bennett, and Peter Sarsgaard.

Invasion of the Remake puts on their dusters and travels back to a time where seven men dared to take on an army. Are both movies magnificent or will one be a misfire? Join Jason, Sam and Trish on a ride only Invasion of the Remake can take you on this week's episode.

This week we fly the mothership to Hong Kong to take on The God of Cookery (1996). The God of Cookery is a wonderful comedy written, directed, and starring the amazing Stephen Chow along side Karen Mok, and Vincent Kok. What is it you ask? Think of it as Iron Chef if the chairman was an arrogant jerk, who can't cook, but learns to do it once he has been dethroned while learning humility along the way. Join Invasion of the Remake as we try to remake our first foreign film for a Western audience. Can it be done? Download this week's episode to find out.

Invasion of the Remake goes back in time to our childhoods and revisits a Walt Disney classic, 101 Dalmatians! Cruella De Vil is obsessed with fur, she adores it, and there is nothing that will stop her from getting it. Unfortunately her latest obsession is with Roger and Anita's dalmatians, Pongo, Perdita and their puppies. 101 Dalmatians (1961) brings grand adventure and social themes together in an animated classic that still resonates over 50 years later. Today live action remakes of classic Walt Disney animated features has become the norm, but in 1996 it was a fresh new idea, and they did it with out the aid of CGI. This week it is classic animation versus the live action film starring Glenn Close, Jeff Daniels, Joely Richardon, Hugh Laurie, Mark Williams and Joan Plowright!

No dogs or hosts were made into coats in the making of this episode.

We're celebrating 100 episodes with the movie most ripe for a remake that it is insane to think that no one has done it yet. Creature From the Black Lagoon (1954) was a late comer to the Universal Monsters family, but the monsters visuals are iconic and imprinted in our minds. It is a science-fiction, horror classic. Why Hollywood hasn't remade it is anyone's guess. With it now on the Dark Universe film slate we thought we'd take our best shot at it before Universal does. So this week we trade our spaceship for a boat and rediscover the Creature From the Black Lagoon.

This week we enter the bowls of the asylum and enter the mind of psychotic serial killer Hannibal Lecter. Originally portrayed on screen by Brian Cox in Manhunter (1986), Hannibal would be later defined by the performance of Anthony Hopkins in Silence of the Lambs (1991), Hannibal (2001) and Red Dragon (2002). While both Manhunter and Red Dragon are adaptations of the Thomas Harris novel, Michael Mann's vision is very different than Brett Ratner's version and we'll explore that. Both films sport an all-star cast, Manhunter also stars William (CSI) Petersen, Kim Greist, Joan Allen, Dennis Farina, and Tom Noonan. Red Dragon is a who's who of Oscar nominated or winning actors and actress with the likes of Edward Norton, Ralph Fiennes, Harvey Keitel, Emily Watson, Mary-Louise Parker, and Philip Seymour Hoffman. It's the Hannibal Lecter battle this week on Invasion of the Remake. Won't you sit down and dine on Director with us?

The story of Bufford Pusser is an inspiring one. He returns to his home town to find it has fallen prey to corruption at every level. He stands up to the gangsters running his beloved town and becomes town Sheriff. He uses this position to clear the town of this corruption, but it comes with a tragic price. The story of Walking Tall (1973) is based on the true life story of Bufford Pusser portrayed by Joe Don Baker. It also launched a successful franchise, sparking two sequels, a television remake and series, and inspiration for countless other films.

The remake of the film in 2004 was one of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson & WWE Films earliest movies. The names may have changed, and the story modernized, but the basic story of Bufford Pusser remains in tact. But how does it fair against the original? The Rock and Joe Don Baker step in the Invasion of the Remake ring and only one will come out Walking Tall.

A plane crashes into a small town's reservoir, accidentally spreading a biological weapon called TRIXIE among the town's population. If the virus doesn't kill you, it makes you insane. The uninfected must not only survive The Crazies, but also dodge military forces who want to contain the outbreak by any means necessary. But no virus can stand up to Invasion of the Remake scrutiny.

This week we discuss George A. Romero's original film The Crazies (1973) starring Lane Caroll, Will MacMillan, Harold Wayne Jones, Lloyd Hollar and Lynn Lowery and see how the remake (2010) by director Breck Eisner holds up. With an all star cast of Radha Mitchell, Timothy Olyphant, Joe Anderson, and Danielle Panabaker it certainly is off to a good start. Can we sort this out, or are we crazy for even trying? This week we travel to the fantasy world of Krull (1983). Here there is magic, evil creatures, cyclops, seers of the future, crystal spiders and a great Beast bent on ruling the universe. It also happens to be a childhood favorite of some of the hosts here at Invasion of the Remake. This cult fantasy film may have been a box office flop in 1983, but we think it is ripe for a remake, Invaders style. After all something has to film the vacuum left by Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. Listen to this weeks episode and see if our version is worthy of filling that void. Surely not a Airplane episode? Absolutely, and don't call me Shirley. When the Zucker brothers were looking for a new project they stumbled upon an obscure airplane disaster film called Zero Hour! (1957). It was overly dramatic, had an absurd concept, and was hilarious in its sincerity. It really only needed a little push over the edge to become farce. That farce became Airplane! (1980) and began a new era of comedic spoof movies, reinventing the career of Leslie Nielsen. Airplane! took serious dramatic actors like Robert Hayes, Julie Hagerty, Lloyd Bridges, Peter Graves, and Robert Stack into new comedic territory, creating a comedy classic. Invasion of the Remake takes to the skies as we explore a comedy remake of a drama, and remembers not to eat the fish. Like, share, and subscribe!

Can the smallest cars be part of one of the largest gold heists ever conceived? Well The Italian Job (1969) brought that concept to the silver screen for the first time with Michael Caine, Noël Coward, and comedy legend Benny Hill. Director F. Gary Gray would revisit this idea in the 2003 remake with an all-star cast in Donald Sutherland, Mark Wahlberg, Edward Norton, Charlize Theron, Jason Statham, Seth Green and Mos Def. Can three small Mini Coopers (or Austin Minis) haul three tons of gold in these action, comedies? The Invaders once again descend to earth to dissect the phenomenon you humans call the cinematic remake.

In fact we have the perfect movie for you, The Trollenberg Terror (1958), sometimes known as The Crawling Eye is being examined, dissected, and re-imagined this week on Invasion of the Remake.
