German soldiers have been stationed at the Keep, but an ancient evil has awoken killing more of them each night. The Nazis are forced to turn to a Jewish professor to help them solve the mysteries of the Keep before more soldiers fall to this unknown force. Just before Miami Vice Michael Mann wrote & directed the World War II horror film The Keep (1983) based on the novel by F. Paul Wilson. The Keep had an impressive cast with Scott Glenn, Alberta Watson, Jürgen Prochnow, Robert Prosky, Gabriel Byrne, and Ian McKellen. Despite an all-star cast and Michael Mann at the helm the film would fail due to a series of unfortunate events that would change Mann's original vision for the film. With such a strong premise Invasion of the Remake deems The Keep worthy of our patented re-imagining. Join us this week as we enter The Keep!

Masamune Shirow's Ghost in the Shell (1995) is a cyberpunk, anime, masterpiece that questions what makes us human. Is it the body or the soul (our ghosts)? The 2017 live action remake starring Scarlett Johansson, Pilou Asbæk, Takeshi Kitano, Juliette Binoche, and Michael Pitt attempts to expand on this idea. This week Invasion of the Remake explores this high tech world of cyborgs, espionage, and artificial intelligence as we compare the anime to the live action Ghost in the Shell (2017).

Invasion of the Remake once again enters the halls of Cannon Films, this time we re-imagine a movie that started a ninja/martial arts craze that would last for most of the 1980's, Enter the Ninja (1981). We'll stick to the shadows, striking when least expected, like a well trained ninja assassin, with a theoretical remake of Enter the Ninja!

Alfred Hitchcock's suspense, thriller Strangers on a Train (1951) influenced quite a few movies and television episodes. It left it's mark as one of the cinematic greats. This week we compare it to one of those heavily "inspired by" films Throw Momma From the Train (1987) starring Billy Crystal and Danny DeVito. You don't want to miss this train, check out this week's Invasion of the Remake!

A pulp novel phenomena, Remo Williams, The Destroyer first jumped out of the novels into film in 1985 by frequent James Bond director Guy Hamilton a with Fred Ward in the title roll and Joel Grey as Remo's sensei Chiun. The controversy of cultural appropriation aside, Remo Williams the Adventure Begins (1985) is a fun action, adventure, comedy film that had a lot of potential for a remake. This week Sean from the What Does It Matter Podcast joins Invasion of the Remake to discuss Remo Williams and help us rethink and recast it for a new generation. The adventure begins here!

We've been invited to Summerisle famous for their delicious apples miraculously grown on an inhospitable island and unique May Day festival. What could possibly go wrong?
The Wicker Man (1973) is considered one the finest films to ever come out of the UK. Starring Edward Woodward, Christopher Lee, Diane Cilento, Britt Ekland, Ingrid Pitt and directed by Robin Hardy. It follows a police officer who tracks a missing girl to the island of Summerisle who uncovers its terrifying secrets during his investigation.
Famous for different reasons Neil LaBute's 2006 remake starring Nicolas Cage, Ellen Burstyn, Kate Beahan, Molly Parker, and Leelee Sobieski is more infamous for it's uneven performances and Nicolas Cage shooting for the stars. Yes this is the one with the bees.
Join Invasion of the Remake on Summerisle for horror classic The Wicker Man. Come for the apples and stay for the ritual sacrifice. You'll be glad you did.

They came for his family, now he's coming for them. They must've had a Death Wish. Paul Kersey had everything taken away from him, now he's taken to the streets to reap justice. Death Wish (1974) is a classic crime drama starring Charles Bronson, Hope Lange, and Vincent Gardenia in which a grieving husband and father, feeling powerless, takes up a gun to stop violent crime on the streets and take the power away from the criminals. In 2018 director Eli Roth remade Death Wish with Bruce Willis, Vincent D'Onofrio, Elisabeth Shue, and Dean Norris. Criminals beware, a new vigilante has taken to the streets and he isn't taking any prisoners. Neither is Invasion of the Remake as we discuss Death Wish (1974 Vs 2018)!

Sorceress (1982) is the most insane fantasy film we've ever had to rework into a modern remake. It has a floating head spitting lasers, angry monkey men, a frisky goat man, a lion with bat wings, the living dead, and twin playmates proficient in the magical and martial arts. All of this and more is wrapped in a Roger Corman bow. Yes it is awful. Join Invasion of the Remake in a land of swords and sorcery as we remake Sorceress!

In We're No Angels (1955) three convicts escape jail to find themselves inadvertently helping a family and finding their own self worth in the process. Michael Curtiz directs an all-star cast that includes Humphrey Bogart, Aldo Ray, Peter Ustinov, Joan Bennett, and Basil Rathbone. In the 1989 version, directed by Neil Jordan and starring Robert De Niro, Sean Penn, Demi Moore, and John C. Reilly, two prisoners escape with a death row inmate and hide in a local church. Interacting with the priests and town's folk help them find redemption in themselves. We may not be angels but Invasion of the Remake will sit in judgement on these films. One shall rise to a heavenly status and one will need to repent for its sins. Join us this week as we discuss We're No Angels!

It's 1963, a time of big hair, teen dance television shows, and racial divide. John Waters brought his vision of 60's Baltimore to life with this fun comedy about popularity and racial segregation starring Ricki Lake, Divine, Debbie Harry, Sonny Bono, and Jerry Stiller. A stage musical adapting the film would rise to popularity in 2002 spawning an adaptation of the musical to a new movie in 2007 by Adam Shankman starring Nikki Blonsky, John Travolta, Michelle Pfeiffer, Christopher Walken, Amanda Bines, Queen Latifah, James Marsden and Zac Efron. Jack Slater 4 is here, it's sure to be the hit movie of 1993, and Danny (Austin O'Brien) has his a ticket to be the first to see it. Only his ticket takes him inside the movie where he can be a part of the action with his on screen hero. Last Action Hero (1993) is a self-aware, meta-action, comedy film starring Arnold Schwarzenegger that challenges the action movie tropes of the late 80's and early 90's. It has so many cameos and easter eggs that only Ready Player One can beat the sheer volume of them. This week Invasion of the Remake updates Last Action Hero to modern action movie standards adding new tropes that proliferate the modern action film. Join us as we remake Last Action Hero!

Suspiria (1977) is an Italian giallo classic by master of horror Dario Argento. It uses big music, odd angles, elaborate sets, and bright technicolors to create its mood. The 2018 re-imagining by Luca Guadagnina relies more on the performances of his incredible cast and an intricately layered plot for his film. A cast that includes Dakota Johnson, Tilda Swinton, Chloe Grace Moretz, and Mia Goth. Both movies challenge the senses with their dazzling visual, complex storytelling, and artful direction. Which witch coven will reign supreme? Join Invasion of the Remake as we close out Women in Horror Month with Suspiria!

Stephen King's first novel became his first book to film adaptation. Brian De Palma's version of Carrie (1976) stands as a horror classic and even earned Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie Oscar nominations in a rare tip of the hat to the genre. It speaks the strength of the material and the quality of talent involved in the film.
Kimberly Peirce's remake starring Chloë Grace Moretz and Julianne Moore didn't strike the same cord in 2013 as the original, but does it deserve the criticism? Or is it just underappreciated and a victim of it's own nostalgia?
Join Invasion of the Remake as we get all dolled up and go to the Prom with two Carries! What can possibly go wrong?

This slumber party is about to turn deadly. Welcome to Invasion of the Remake's month long celebration of the women who scare us to death beginning with The Slumber Party Massacre (1982) which is the first horror franchise to be written and directed entirely by women. Envisioned as a parody of the slasher genre The Slumber Party Massacre may seem derivative on the surface but it's feminist undertones hide a hilarious commentary on the medium. Invasion of the Remake can't sleep and we're going to come up with some ideas for a modern remake including our own fantasy casting of The Slumber Party Massacre!
