This week it's all about the game show that is trying to kill you, The Running Man (1987)! Arnold Schwarzenegger stars in the sci-fi, action film based on a story by Richard Bachman (aka Stephen King) alongside Maria Conchita Alonso, Yaphet Kotto, and Richard Dawson. Ben Richards is on the run to save his life, earn his freedom, and reveal the truth about the government ruling the country with an iron fist. Join Invasion of the Remake as they explore this game of death and what a modern day remake, they'd like to see, would look like.

A plane crashes into a small town's reservoir, accidentally spreading a biological weapon called TRIXIE among the town's population. If the virus doesn't kill you, it makes you insane. The uninfected must not only survive The Crazies, but also dodge military forces who want to contain the outbreak by any means necessary. But no virus can stand up to Invasion of the Remake scrutiny.

This week we discuss George A. Romero's original film The Crazies (1973) starring Lane Caroll, Will MacMillan, Harold Wayne Jones, Lloyd Hollar and Lynn Lowery and see how the remake (2010) by director Breck Eisner holds up. With an all star cast of Radha Mitchell, Timothy Olyphant, Joe Anderson, and Danielle Panabaker it certainly is off to a good start. Can we sort this out, or are we crazy for even trying? Get your gas masks on as we take on The Crazies!

This week we travel to the fantasy world of Krull (1983). Here there is magic, evil creatures, cyclops, seers of the future, crystal spiders and a great Beast bent on ruling the universe. It also happens to be a childhood favorite of some of the hosts here at Invasion of the Remake. This cult fantasy film may have been a box office flop in 1983, but we think it is ripe for a remake, Invaders style. After all something has to film the vacuum left by Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. Listen to this weeks episode and see if our version is worthy of filling that void. Surely not a Airplane episode? Absolutely, and don't call me Shirley. When the Zucker brothers were looking for a new project they stumbled upon an obscure airplane disaster film called Zero Hour! (1957). It was overly dramatic, had an absurd concept, and was hilarious in its sincerity. It really only needed a little push over the edge to become farce. That farce became Airplane! (1980) and began a new era of comedic spoof movies, reinventing the career of Leslie Nielsen. Airplane! took serious dramatic actors like Robert Hayes, Julie Hagerty, Lloyd Bridges, Peter Graves, and Robert Stack into new comedic territory, creating a comedy classic. Invasion of the Remake takes to the skies as we explore a comedy remake of a drama, and remembers not to eat the fish. Like, share, and subscribe!

Invasion of the Remake explores a romantic comedy about love and adultery with Same Time, Next Year (1978). Is this something they can remake in more sensitive times? It was nominated for 4 Academy Awards but would it resonate with a modern audience? Join us for a thought provoking topic with all the fun and irreverence you've come to expect from Invasion of the Remake!

Can the smallest cars be part of one of the largest gold heists ever conceived? Well The Italian Job (1969) brought that concept to the silver screen for the first time with Michael Caine, Noël Coward, and comedy legend Benny Hill. Director F. Gary Gray would revisit this idea in the 2003 remake with an all-star cast in Donald Sutherland, Mark Wahlberg, Edward Norton, Charlize Theron, Jason Statham, Seth Green and Mos Def. Can three small Mini Coopers (or Austin Minis) haul three tons of gold in these action, comedies? The Invaders once again descend to earth to dissect the phenomenon you humans call the cinematic remake.

Are you looking for a crazy science-fiction, horror movie? If yes, you may be looking to check off a few boxes. Does it have decapitations? Check. Does it have mind controlled zombies? Check. Is someone psychic? Check. Are there monsters that look like giant eyeballs with tentacles that live in there own compact atmosphere that is near subzero temperatures? Well that is oddly specific, you freak, but yes, several. In fact we have the perfect movie for you, The Trollenberg Terror (1958), sometimes known as The Crawling Eye is being examined, dissected, and re-imagined this week on Invasion of the Remake.

Strange things can happen to people suffering from sleep deprivation, poor hand/eye coordination, slower cognitive abilities, hallucinations, paranoia, and possibly teaming up with the very killer you were supposed to catch. In episode 89 of the podcast that never sleeps, we watched Norwegian crime film Insomnia (1997) starring Stellan Skarsgård, and the Christopher Nolan 2002 remake starring Oscar winning actors Al Pacino, Robin Williams and Hilary Swank. There's no time to nap, when there is another episode of Invasion of the Remake!

A young man tries to get a fresh start and a new life by traveling to the great city from his small village, but the great city has problems of its own in the monster known as the Jabberwocky. Terry Gilliam makes his solo directorial debut with Jabberwocky (1977) and brings along Michael Palin and Terry Jones for that Monty Python-esque flavoring. Jabberwocky is a tongue-in-cheek fairy tail where the fairy tail happens by accident. This week Invasion of the Remake takes a look at this medieval comedy and rethinks it for a theoretical remake. What would that look like? Subscribe now to find out for yourselves!

Mother's Day is upon us and what better way to celebrate than with two films about psychopathic mothers and the children who love them. First up is Mother's Day (1980) directed by Charles Kaufman, brother of Lloyd Kaufman, founder of Troma Films. It stars Tiana Pierce, Nancy Hendrickson, and Deborah Luce as a trio of girls out for an annual party weekend, but only to find a sadistic family that wants to torture them. Actress Beatrice Pons and her loyal but evil children played by Michael McCleery and Frederick Coffin round out this cult favorite.

Mother's Day (2010) directed by Saw franchise favorite Darren Lynn Bousman has an all-star cast in Jaime King, Shawn Ashmore, Briana Evigan, Patrick John Flueger, Warren Kole and Rebecca De Mornay as Mother! Does the remake pale in the light of the original or does it hold a standard as to what remakes can be? Join the Invaders as we salute the women who raised us, and horror these cinematic mothers brought to the silver screen.

In Victorian England, Sir Hugo Cunningham is seeking the secrets of life and death. In his research he discovers the means to capture the spirit of death, The Asphyx, and hold it indefinitely. In effect, becoming immortal. But immortality comes at a great cost. This is the crux of The Asphyx (1972, aka The Horror of Death), a small studio homage to the classic Hammer Films of the 60's and 70's. Don't worry, we'd never heard of it either, and it was kind of awesome. The Asphyx is exactly the kind of film Invasion of the Remake likes to discuss, rethink, and in effect, remake for today's audiences. So please join Jason, Sam, and Trish as they look into the forgotten gothic horror film, The Asphyx!

This week we talk about one of Trish's favourite subjects, SHARKS! Specifically those that have terrified us in the movies and on television. Jaws terrified and kicked off the summer blockbuster but also created a horror subgenre of it's own, that of the killer shark, and the recent sharksploitation explosion that gave us The Asylum and it's Sharnado franchise. We talk about 3-headed sharks, snow sharks, dinosaur sharks, sand sharks, ghost sharks, zombie sharks and every insane idea we could find and come up with a few ideas of our own. Also hear some of our true life shark tales on this very toothy episode of Invasion of the Remake. No shark cage required.

This week we can remember it for you..for free! Douglas Quaid dreams of a beautiful woman, another world and another life in Total Recall. Loosely based on the Philip K. Dick story "We Can Remember it For You Wholesale" Director Paul Verhoeven takes Arnold Schwarzenegger from Earth to Mars alongside Sharon Stone, Michael Ironside, and Ronny Cox. Although maybe that was the dream Verhoeven had in 1990 and Director Len Wiseman's 2012 remake is the real deal. There is no Mars, but Colin Farrell, Kate Bekinsale, Jessica Biel, Bryan Cranston, John Cho, and Bill Nighy will take you on a wild ride from one end of the planet to the other. Was it the vacation of a lifetime or did it all really happen for Quaid? Invasion of the Remake will try to find the answers for these sci-fi, action films in this week's episode.

Remaking a John Hughes classic coming of age comedy like Weird Science (1985) is no easy task. It is probably easier to conjure a hot date out of junk laying around the studio. Anthony Michael Hall and Ilan Mitchell-Smith certainly make it look easy to create a gorgeous, near omnipotent, Kelly LeBrock out of thin air. Thanks to the advanced technology and intellect here on the Invasion mothership we have the ability to remake this fun 80's film because we are Invasion of the Remake!

This week we have violent, sex & drug addicted, anthropomorphic animals starring in our third fan challenge. They are staging a variety show, in the vein of The Muppet Show, but with a lot more puss, blood, and Vietnam flashbacks. This pre Lord of the Rings Peter Jackson manages to create a sick & twisted world full of insanity on a miniscule budget. It's easy to see the birth of Jackson's attention to detail that has permeated throughout his career. There are almost to many characters, with there interesting quirks, addictions, and homicidal thoughts, to discuss in one podcast. But Invasion of the Remake is up to the challenge as we remake Meet the Feebles (1989)!

LISTENER DISCRETION IS ADVISED but this is a fan challenge so you brought this upon yourselves. No puppet shall get out alive!

The cops can't catch them. The FBI can't catch them. Can a cab driver? This Luc Besson scripted action, comedy was scripted in 30 days while waiting for a studio to give the go ahead on The Fifth Element. Under the direction of Gérard Pirès Taxi (1998) spawned 3 more sequels in France. The success of Taxi brought it to the attention of American film makers and Taxi was remade in 2004 (aka New York Taxi) by Tim Story and starring Queen Latifah and Jimmy Fallon. Invasion of the Remake pays the fair, goes for a ride, and sees which film takes us to our destination without puking.

Saint Patrick's Day is just around the corner and Invasion of the Remake put on their green shirts, following the rainbow to the pot of gold at the end of it. Shame about the surly leprechaun who wanted to disembowel us. This week we take a look at the first of the Leprechaun (1993) films, the one that started the horror franchise. It was Trimark's first film release and it was Jennifer Aniston's film debut. With so many firsts there had to be some nuggets of a good idea and the Invaders make those nuggets of gold with their patented remake treatment. Grab a green beer and enjoy this week's Invasion of the Remake!

It is a ménage à trois of giant ape movies this week with King Kong, greatest of all the giant apes. King Kong joins the monsterverse this week that begun with Godzilla in 2014 with Kong: Skull Island. We celebrate King Kong's return to prominence this week by looking back on the original film, the 1976 remake, and the mammoth Peter Jackson version from 2005. We're swatting at airplanes from the tallest buildings for this podcast, so don't miss this weeks Invasion of the Remake!

Water is the most valuable substance in the galaxy, and these guys mean to steal it. Ice Pirates (1984) is a sci-fi, comedy that blends many of the science fiction genre themes into one goofy space opera. It is too much fun to get forgotten, so the Invaders go back to the stars this week to remake Ice Pirates starring Robert Urich, Mary Crosby, Michael D. Roberts, Anjelica Huston, John Matuszak, Ron Pearlman, and Bruce Vilanch. How will they improve it? Who will they cast in there remake? Download this week's episode to find out.

We're not angry prophets denouncing the hypocrisy of our times, well Trish might be, but we do know an amazing film when we see it. Network (1976) did however eerily predict what news media would eventually evolve into. Was it satire transcending into reality, or a very savvy futurist in writer Paddy Chayefsky? This film was a warning, well regarded in it's Oscar winning performances, but a warning that fell on deaf ears. Faye Dunaway, William Holden, Peter Finch, and Robert Duvall star in one of the most important films (directed by Sidney Lumet) of any generation.

With certain politicians denouncing serious impartial news sites as "fake news" in favor of more sensational slanted news sources Invasion of the Remake feels this film is more relevant than ever before. Join us this week as we climb Mount Everest, attempt to do the impossible, and remake an almost perfect film with our own "award winning" fantasy casting. What better way to celebrate Oscar season than with Invasion of the Remake!

It's that time again. February. Love is in the air. Declarations of peoples feelings happen in the form of flowers, cards, and boxes filled with internal organs. Welcome to Valentine Bluffs (1981) and Harmony (2009), two small mining towns and murder capitals of America. Invasion of the Remake was brave enough to enter there worlds to see whose Harry Warden is the more efficient killer.

My Bloody Valentine (1981) was created to capitalize on the holiday slasher craze that was popular at the time. It was directed by George Mihalka and starred Paul Kelman, Lori Hallier, Neil Affleck, and Keith Knight. 28 years later, at the forefront of the remake craze, was My Bloody Valentine 3D (2009) directed by Patrick Lussier and starring Jensen Ackles (on a rare release from the prison called Supernatural), Jaime King, Kerr Smith, and Tom Atkins.

We present to you with our deepest affection, this heart shaped box containing a still beating bloody heart that oddly resembles a podcast. Won't you be our Valentine?

Going back to a simpler time where a man could stake his claim, and his fortunes on the land, Invasion of the Remake hits the open plains to find gold in remaking the Lee Marvin & Clint Eastwood western, Paint Your Wagon. A film that may have been made before it's time, but maybe with a fresh coat of Invader coloured paint we can get this wagon rolling for a new audience. Oh, we forgot to mention it's a musical. Yup. Lee Marvin. Clint Eastwood. That totally happened. Crazy. Movies!

Coming from the twisted mind of Ed Wood comes what many call the worst movie ever. Plan 9 From Outer Space (1959) is a beautiful mess of a movie and it was bound to happen someone would think to remake the film which features a deceased Bela Lugosi. Writer, Director, and actor John Johnson would take this piecemealed film and decoded it into something more cohesive and make sense of the mind that was Ed Wood 58 years later. The original film that is so bad, it's good gets the Invasion of the Remake treatment this week. It's going to be hilarious, don't you dare miss this one.
